carrot for the pain

all day i procrastinated on writing. one of those stupid days.

but then i started visualizing how AWESOME it would feel to have 50,000 words at the end of the month.  i thought about how it would LOOK (a thick ream of paper), and how proud i would feel.  ah, and then my desire to procrastinate fell away.

sometimes i gotta dangle a carrot in front of me–so i can look past the pain…or at least know it’s worth it.

  1. That’s the spirit. I actual did complete NanoWriMo successfully in 2001, and those 50K carried me a long way. They got me into 3 writing residencies, notice from an agent, and a very good feeling of accomplishment.

    Keep at it.

  2. yep! and i found out a way to compensate for all the days i’m travelling this month: i’m going to tack them on to the end of the month and allow myself extra days. tomorrow i’m traveling, and next week i’m gone 4 days, so i’ll give myself a few days into december!

  3. Theories Blogger

Great problem-solving jadepark, I like that solution. And Susan, thanks for the encouraging anecdote.

  4. New name but same gray-haired theoretician and MFA. I’ve got a wordpress blog now for nanowrimo! Drop by if you have a chance.

  5. You can do it! I know you can. Procrastination is so easy, though…but taking breaks to cook and eat is good. Yeah, why not give yourself a few extra days? That’s the spirit.
